Aircraft For Sale: Buy A
Rotary Or Fixed Wing Aircraft?

Many people wanting to buy aircraft regularly look at ‘aircraft for sale’ classifieds. Often they feel torn between rotary- and fixed wing aircraft for sale. There are more fixed wing aircraft for sale than rotary wing aircraft for sale, for the simple reason that more fixed wing aircraft have been produced over the last 100 years or so.

There are often three factors on people’s minds when they can’t decide between fixed-and rotary wing aircraft for sale. These are: initial investment, running cost and safety. I will use Cessna and Robinson for comparison purposes.

Initial investment: If one looks at the price tags of reputable brands of rotary- and fixed wing aircraft , the pricing differ substantially. A 2000 Robinson R44 Raven aircraft that is for sale fetches prices of around $240,000, whilst a 2000 Cessna 172 S aircraft that is for sale, fetches around $100,000.

Running Costs: The running cost difference between rotary- and fixed wing aircraft for sale is significant. A 2000 Robinson R 44 is nearly twice as expensive to run, coming in at app. $ 36,000 (including overhaul fund) per annum, compared to the $21,000 estimate on the 172 S.

Safety: The safety records of the two aircraft for sale are very similar in terms of accidents and amount to around 8 accidents per 100,000 hours flight. The fatality rate associated with helicopters is proportionally higher then that of an aircraft. Bear this in mind when evaluating the various aircraft for sale.

Flying is a passion and making an unemotional decision on which type of aircraft to buy, tough. Taking a flight in, each of the aircraft for sale, offers clarity. After all, it is about enjoyment too.
